Hi friends!
Our official VSSS Alumni Group for Vijayantha Schools, established in 2008, has now been re-activated with renewed energy and a well-defined roadmap, fully compliant with government norms.

Welcome, Vijayanta Alumni!

Welcome to the VSSS Alumni Association, encompassing both Vijayanta Senior Secondary School (VSSS) & Vijayanta Model Higher Secondary School (VMHSS). Our vibrant network unites former students, teachers, and staff through a shared love for our school. Whether you graduated recently or decades ago, you are a valued member of our alumni family.

The Birth of Vijayanta School: A Legacy Rooted in National Service

The Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), located in Avadi, Chennai, was established in 1961 by the Ordnance Factory Board(OFB). Its primary purpose is the manufacture of heavy battlefield equipment, including tanks and other armored vehicles, for the Indian Army.
HVF produced the iconic Vijayanta Tank — the nation’s first indigenously built battle tank , lends the school not just its name, but also symbolic significance: representing pride, strength, and national service.
Initially, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV-HVF) was set up within the HVF Estate to cater to the children of local employees. However, with a growing number of transferred Central Government and Defence personnel moving into the area, the priority for KV admissions shifted in their favour.
Over time, this change meant that local HVF employees’ children were gradually left out, as most seats were allotted to transferable Central Government staff, Army, and Defence personnel. With a limited number of seats available, non-transferable HVF employees faced increasing difficulty securing admission for their children in KV.
In response to this gap, a strong employees’ union movement emerged. Led by determined leaders and born from the efforts, sacrifices, and dreams of HVF employees, Vijayanta Matriculation School was established in 1975.The school carried not just the name of the legendary battle tank, but also the spirit of resilience, self-reliance, and community solidarity.
“Vijayanta” — A Symbol of Victory
Named “Vijayanta”, meaning victory, the school has become a second home to thousands of children — including those of factory workers, technicians, and officers. It has stood tall for decades, providing quality education, instilling discipline, and nurturing generations of students who carry forward the values of hard work, patriotism, and excellence.
In this spirit, Vijayanta School, located in the heart of HVF estate, shares a deep and meaningful connection with HVF and the community it was designed to serve. Established in 1975, the school was created to provide quality education to the children of employees working at HVF and other defence-related establishments in the region.

Academic Evolution & Standards

Initially established as a Matriculation school, Vijayanta School evolved in 1979 to offer a comprehensive education adhering to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) standards. The curriculum has consistently focused on holistic development, including academics, sports, and extracurricular activities.
Vijayanta School continues to uphold its tradition of providing quality education, offering programs from kindergarten through higher secondary levels (classes 11 and 12).

Management & Community Focus

The school used to be managed directly by HVF, as it was set up primarily to serve the needs of the factory’s employees. This management included administrative oversight by HVF officials, with the school’s operations closely aligned with the needs and policies of the defense sector.
Over time, the school expanded and catered to a broader community beyond just HVF employees to accommodate the growing student body and diverse educational needs. While HVF continued to play a significant role in supporting the school, there was a transition towards a more independent management structure that included representatives from HVF, education experts, and parent representatives.

Our Alumni Association (Estd. Since 2008)

The VSSS ALUMNI Association was formed in the year 2008 to bring together former students, providing them with a platform to reconnect, network, and contribute to the school’s growth.
The association, registered Under the Societies Registration Act, is governed by key roles like President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and other executive members. These roles are filled by dedicated alumni volunteers who manage the association’s activities.

Revival of the VSSS ALUMNI Association

The VSSS ALUMNI Association, originally established since 2008, was founded with a vision to unite former students, foster lifelong connections, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and welfare of the school. Over the years, the association has welcomed alumni from both Vijayanta Senior Secondary School and Vijayanta Model Higher Secondary School, two institutions that, while sharing a common heritage, have nurtured students with distinct educational experiences.

Together, the alumni of these two schools form a diverse and vibrant community, each bringing their unique perspectives, skills, and experiences. The association acts as a bridge between them — fostering unity, preserving shared traditions, and promoting initiatives that benefit both schools and their broader communities..

In its formative years, the association was vibrant and actively engaged in a range of initiatives — from honoring teachers and organizing student events to promoting sports and cultural activities. These efforts not only strengthened the bond among alumni but also created lasting ties between past students and the school community.

However, over time, the association faced challenges in maintaining coordination and sustaining active participation. As interest waned and operational issues grew, activities slowed down significantly. Eventually, the association became dormant: official operations ceased, bank accounts were frozen, and the once-active body entered a period of hibernation.

In early 2024, a renewed spirit of unity and purpose reignited the association. A group comprising former office-bearers and newly energized alumni came together with a shared mission — to commemorate the school’s Golden Jubilee and restore the alumni network to its rightful place of influence and service. This resurgence culminated in a successful alumni meet held on August 15, 2024, at the Vijayanta Model Higher Secondary School (VMHSS) campus. The event, organized with the wholehearted support of the school authorities, marked a defining moment. It was here that alumni formally resolved to reactivate the association and embark on a new chapter.

Reviving a registered body involved navigating several legal and administrative challenges. Nevertheless, with the strong backing of the HVF management, the commitment of the school leadership, and the relentless efforts of dedicated alumni, the revival was successfully executed. Key formalities — including the reactivation of the association’s PAN, reopening of the bank account, re-establishment of financial protocols, and compliance with all government and statutory norms — were meticulously completed.

Today, the revived VSSS ALUMNI Association stands as a symbol of perseverance, unity, and pride. It embodies the collective will of its members to preserve the legacy of their alma mater and build a robust support system for future generations. With renewed energy and a well-defined roadmap, the association is now focused on fostering consistent alumni engagement, ensuring transparent governance, sharing regular updates, and delivering meaningful contributions to the school and its broader community.

This revival is not just an administrative milestone — it is a reaffirmation of the alumni’s enduring bond with the school. The new leadership and its members are committed to sustaining this momentum, enriching the lives of students and alumni alike, and keeping the association active and relevant for decades to come.

On 27th July 2025, the VSSS Alumni, in collaboration with supporting alumni, the HVF management, and the management teams of VSSS and VMHSS, came together to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of VSSS and the Silver Jubilee of VMHSS.
The celebration was a historic and memorable event, drawing media attention and coverage. Alumni travelled from across the country—and even overseas—to be part of the occasion. Retired teachers, despite their age, graciously attended and added emotional depth to the event. The presence of current staff & students, school management leaders, and distinguished icons further elevated the significance of the day.
